Eek!!!Scared Scared Two guests, scary!!
It's a bit odd having 'unknown' people creeping about the place!

Please NRAS put us out of our misery Blink

I have received an email, below, from Sarah at NRAS about our 'guests'. I have thanked her for investigating. Think we need to keep our eyes open for intruders ... err, I mean 'guests'! They shouldn't now be appearingThumpUp

Hi there

Further to your recent posts on the forum regarding Guest Access to the NRAS Forum.

We have been waiting for a definitive response from our technical advisers to advise on who the ‘guests’ are. There is now no facility for new guests to sign up or access the site.

The Guest facility was originally set up during the development stage to allow NRAS Staff and the technical team to access the forum structure. It did not allow users to see any threads or posts created by NRAS members.

We are told that the Guest option remained live for the technical team but has now been removed. They have assured us that the only people who have access to the threads and your posts are members of NRAS and the NRAS team.

So, hopefully the ‘Guests’ have been eliminated. If you should spot anything unusual please email us at membership@nras.org.uk and we will look into it.

If you have any queries regarding the forum please can you email them to membership@nras.org.uk this will ensure it is passed to the correct person and dealt with as quickly as possible.

Best wishes

Sarah Ball

Hi all

This wierd forum of ours!!!

When we previously had "guests" online, I checked the sign in codes, which came up (in every case) as "dotActive". Even when there were two guests on-line, they both had the same sign in code of "dotActive"!!!

Guess what - I have just noticed 4 "active members" on-line, one of them (shown in black type as opposed to the usual red) was "dotActive". It seems that those who were previously logged in as "guests" are still logging on, but are now classed as "active members" and not "guests", although their sign in code is still "dotActive".

I have searched through the members list, and there is no member called "dotActive". Please, NRAS, tell us who dotActive is as he/she is accessing this forum regularly and we cannot trace.

I also noticed "dotActive" has been on a lot today.
It certainly doesn't feel as safe as the old forum and judging by the lack of activity on here at the moment, a lot of members feel the same.
I got that e-mail as well but it's a different explanation to the one Helen gave me.

PS Just noticed "dotAgency" is logged on now.

PPS they have multiplied! We now have 2 "dotAgency" on line.

I know we laugh about this but, seriously, I am wondering whether someone is hacking into the forum. I think we do need to know who the "dotActive" member/members are. I certainly do not feel the forum is safe anymore, despite reassurances to the contrary from NRAS.

I have to agree with Jean - I don`t feel the forum is quite safe. Each time I post I wonder who exactly is reading. I know that anyone can read posts on the AC forum - which is why I`ve never joined.

I've heard from Helen that the people accessing the forum under the sign on name of "dotActive" are members of the web design team.

I had the same email and am quite happy to know that the 'guests' are members only. (That's how I took it)

Me too, I got the email. I realised after posting that 'dotAgency' is the company who operate the website so it all made sense then. Obviously the technicians need to be able to access the forum for routine maintenance, upgrading etc . NRAS advise that they are unable to access our threads and posts which are available only to members and the NRAS team, so no security issues involved.

All's well that ends well somebody once said!Razz

Of COURSE you can - the more the merrier. You do, of course, have to pass an aptitude test first!! (We let Mary L pass cos she would have caused a huge stink if we hadn't). I'll let you know when and where - we have to wait for Amanda to sober up and for Barbara to come out of rehab first thoughCool

Lots of love
